What is a Divination?

Divination is not to be confused with what is popularly known in the West as a "psychic reading." It is much more. In The Mami Wata Vodoun Tradition, consultations are conducted directly with the deity/spirits and ancestors in assessing your problem and needs. A divination is in essence a spiritual diagnosis, and the information obtained is utilized to establish the options available to you. The information provided is directly related to you and the particular issues that you and the spirits have brought forth. However, before you contact us, please make certain we can be of service to you. Please make sure you read all of the information below.

I have an accessibility need and/or request. Am I still available to receive services?

The Mami Wata Healers Society Temple of Mawu does not discriminate against anyone, regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, genetic history, age, pregnancy, veteran status, socioeconomic status or any other protected category of the laws of the land. That being said, we assist all based upon their lineages' needs. Should you have an ADA accomodation request, we thank you in advance for your patience as we continue our preparations and we will do our best to accomodate those needs for you. Email mamathefire50@yahoo.com with the subject "Accessibility Request" and briefly detail your request. We will review the request and correspond accordingly.

I am a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Am I available to receive services?

As stated in the above question, we do not discriminate against anyone. We openly welcome members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and your privacy is ensured within our services for you. We affirm that you have the right to choose whether or not to disclose this information publicly. For the sole purpose of your services, we kindly ask that you identify your sexual orientation and/or gender identity when privately submitting for a consultation. This allows our Chief Hounon Amengansie to assist you in all areas and provide the highest quality of assistance to you. For example, on the consultation form, it asks you for your birth name. We ask that you provide your birth name as it was initially placed on your birth certificate and provide us with your preferred name as well. We will respect both for you.

What happened to Mama Zogbé? Who is her successor?

Our American-born Founder, The Late Chief Hounon Amengansie of The Mami Wata Healers Society Temple of Mawu, Mama Zogbé, transitioned to the ancestral realm. You may learn more about her by visiting the links found on her Legacy Page. We have tenderly attended to her transition in our Tradition and honored the time frame required to provide this information to the General Public. Out of respect to her, the traditions she dutifully preserved, and her lineage, we yield all further questions about her transition to the privacy she and her family rightfully deserves. Now the time has come for us to continue the traditions she so carefully upheld in her honor and we will continue to do so.

Mama Zogbé's successor is none other than Chief Hounon Amengansie Mama Zodédé. The Mami Wata Healers Society Temple of Mawu completely stands behind and supports Mama Zodédé in all of her endeavors to successfully support and uplift the African Diaspora throughout the world through instruction of lineage-based tradition and culture. You may learn more about our King & Queen Mother, by visiting our bookstore, which she carefully constructed with Mama Zogbé, or by visiting her webpage.

I would like to interview Chief Hounon Amengansie Mama Zodédé. What is the process for this?

Interviews are granted by request and thorough review. To begin this process, start by emailing mamathefire50@yahoo.com. Please note, we are a very busy shrine and correspondence may be delayed due to availability.

I do not live close to the Shrine. How can I receive services?

Membership is global, however our flagship location generally services the Americas and the Western Hemisphere. We do not use "Zoom" or other similar types of communications (FaceTime, Skype, etc.) to disclose our traditions, as many of those softwares are not completely private. We have many opportunities for you to join us in person, should finances and availability support those endeavors for you. We know that they will.
Our consultations are available in person, but should the need arise, you may receive your results over the phone. Typically, many receive their results over the phone.
Services are to be completed in-person. If there are any products or materials that can be shipped to you, it is on a case-by-case basis and will be disclosed to you directly by our Chief.

I believe that I am a Sibyl. How can I confirm this?

Great Question! Divination is the most thorough means to determine if the Amengansie Tradition is a part of your lineage.

Can I initiate to any Deity that I want to? I feel as if I identify with a specific deity named _____.

Consultation is the correct means to determine which Vodou walk with you. We will not provide any ceremony to you that is not authorized by the Ancestors or Spirits. It is against our protocol to do so.
In fact, many find that their specific lineages' needs, requests and rewards are greater than anything that they could have imagined.

I have a ______ (family member, friend, colleague, spouse) that is a member of your organization but do not know much about it. Where can I learn more?

This page is a great place to start. For more information, feel free to peruse through our media pages. There, you will see our tradition in action. Along with reading our books, learning how to participate is a wonderful way to be educated on African Tradition and Culture. If you have any questions, or would like to participate in an event, ask your loved one what public events are available for you to attend.
Should you feel called to do so, look at our forms page. There, you can submit a prayer or consultation request.

My ______ (family member, friend, colleague, spouse) and I have both received services from you and they have different ceremonies than I do. Why is that?

Identical Twins are a great example of how to answer this question! This scenario presents two people with unique similarities that have different courses of life. While it may be difficult to understand, there are no two people from the same lineage with the same destiny.
Do not look at what someone else next to you has and wonder about your own journey. Your journey is your journey, specifically made just for you and your lineage. The more you focus on your own roads, the better.

Why is the Vodoun Tradition more private compared to other traditions?

Every person's needs are specific to them and their lineages. We celebrate African Tradition and Culture openly, however, services that we provide to each individual are and will continue to be confidential as per our protocol. We host events that are open to the general public and send invitations via social media and our Announcements page. In the meantime, we encourage you to look at our Folklore page to learn more.

I would like to take the intangible knowledge and experiences that I have learned from and about the Society (through YouTube, etc.) and utilize it for personal, commercial, financial gain. Is this possible?

Everything starts with a Consultation. Should this request be serious, we highly recommend that you follow protocol and contact our Chief directly to set up a time for meeting or a consultation. All information provided during any service is the intellectual property of Chief Hounon Amengansie Mama Zodédé, the intellectual legacy of Mama Zogbé and the Mami Wata Healers Society Temple of Mawu. We follow the instructions of the Ancestors and Spirits, and recommend that you do the same before proceeding. No member is authorized to speak on behalf of the Society or individually perform services for anyone on behalf of the Society without public acknowledgement, and all remarks from members are to be regarded as private statements.

How should I pay for Services or submit a donation?

Listed below are instructions for Zelle payments, as well as payment links to pay via Cash App or PayPal. Please note, if you are going to pay or donate on behalf of someone else, please indicate their name and the purpose of payment in the Memo or Notes Sections. Akpelooo!
